Running Code Server on DockHive

Smallest size

Code Server needs at least a Micro HivePod (about $2 a month if it runs all the time). Smaller sizes can't be picked for it. It is billed by the hour while it runs, from your plan's included vCPU-hours first, and a stopped pod costs nothing.

Its own HTTPS address

Code Server gets its own HTTPS address as soon as it's running. You can also serve it on your own domain: add the domain to the pod and the certificate is issued automatically.

Set up at install

The install form asks for one setting before Code Server starts. Everything else, including passwords other services need, is generated for you.

Your data and backups

Code Server's data stays on the pod's disk and survives restarts. HivePod backups include all of it, and restoring a backup brings back the same app with the same data.

Questions about hosting Code Server

How do I self-host Code Server on DockHive?

Open HivePods → App Marketplace in the DockHive console, pick Code Server, choose a size and a region and click Install. It runs in its own HivePod at its own HTTPS address, usually in about a minute.

On the pod's disk, in the region you picked. It survives restarts, HivePod backups include it, and restoring a backup brings back the same app with the same data.

Can I put Code Server on my own domain?

Yes. Add your domain on the pod's Custom domains card, create the CNAME and TXT records it shows at your DNS provider, and the HTTPS certificate is issued once the domain is verified.

Is Code Server made by DockHive?

No. Code Server is an open-source project by its own developers; see coder.com/docs/code-server for its documentation. DockHive's App Marketplace installs and runs it for you.
