A Neon alternative for managed PostgreSQL
If you're looking for a Neon alternative, DockHive runs managed PostgreSQL in eight regions, next to the apps that use it. Import a database copies your data straight from Neon, and with logical replication turned on it can keep the copy in sync until you switch over.
What you get with Managed databases
One-click import from Neon
Paste the connection string from the Neon dashboard; it already includes sslmode=require. DockHive copies every table and checks the row counts.
Keep in sync, then switch
Enable Logical Replication in your Neon project settings, choose Copy and keep in sync, and switch over in seconds when you are ready.
PostgreSQL 14 to 18
Pick the version when you create the database; 17 is the default. PostGIS comes installed.
Next to your app
Create the database in the same region as your app on Drone, your HivePods or your functions, in any of eight regions.
RegionsTLS and a closed firewall
TLS is on by default, and a new database accepts no connections until you allow an address, app or pod.
Pay for storage you use
Storage is included in every plan and billed on what you actually use beyond it: $0.10 per GB-month.
Move your database from Neon
- 1 Copy the connection stringUse the connection string from the Neon dashboard. For keep-in-sync, enable Logical Replication in the project settings first.
- 2 Check the connectionIn DockHive, open Databases → Import a database, paste the string, pick a region and click Check connection. It shows the version, size, tables and anything that needs your attention.
- 3 ImportClick Create database and import, and follow the copy on the Migration tab. You can leave the page while it runs.
- 4 Switch overFor a sync, stop writes and click Switch over. Then put the new connection string in your app.
Good to know
- Databases run at the storage size you choose, from 100 MB to 1 TB; you raise the limit yourself as data grows.
- The vector extension (pgvector) is not offered, so tables that use it cannot be imported.
- Backups are taken on demand.
Questions about switching to Managed databases
How do I import a Neon database?
In the DockHive console, open Databases → Import a database, paste the connection string from your Neon dashboard (it already includes sslmode=require), pick a region and click Check connection. Then click Create database and import.
Can I keep the data in sync while I switch?
Yes. Enable Logical Replication in your Neon project settings and choose Copy and keep in sync. DockHive keeps applying changes for up to 14 days; when you are ready, stop writes and click Switch over.
Which PostgreSQL versions are available?
PostgreSQL 14, 15, 16, 17 (the default) and 18. Imports go into the same major version or newer.
Does DockHive support pgvector?
No. The vector extension is not offered on DockHive databases, so tables and objects that use it cannot be imported.
How much does it cost?
Databases are included in every plan. The Free Tier has 500 MB of database storage, the Developer Plan ($3/month) 50 GB and the Pro Plan ($15/month) 150 GB. Beyond that, storage is $0.10 per GB-month, billed on what you actually use. Importing is free.
